If you are into housekeeping or home cleaning and try to stay in touch with the latest novelties in the field, you have probably already seen the viral videos of the new carpet cleaning robots. They look cool, hassle-free, and super-efficient – as if you are watching a sci-fi movie, not a real-time routine.
As a professional carpet cleaner of more than a decade, however, I have a completely different outtake – I know they cannot solve the real problems with your floor coverings. The new-generation robots are actually little vacuum cleaners in disguise. Indeed, they move on their own, you do not need to be in the room to overlook their work, and they are perfectly safe for your home. They are the lazy answer of people who hate housekeeping in the first place.
If you expect them to solve more complex issues like persistent stains or mold spots, you are sadly mistaken. Do not believe in the ads that claim that these handy gadgets will remove the need for human carpet cleaning – they are a quiet and hassle-free substitute for your outdated vacuum cleaner, nothing more!
Is it a good idea to invest money in their purchase? Sure, they will be a handy tool in your closet. But you should not be disappointed when they fail to address a coffee stain or mold spot on your carpet – they were never meant to do so!
